DEWAIN STOLL

Artist Statement:
It's been said...

"What the landscape painter wants to render is not the natural landscape but the feeling which the landscape produces in him."

Working in oils, I attempt to convey what inspires me. Painting with a direct ‘alla prima’ (all at once) technique, I handle the pigment loosely, applying free strokes of paint, quickly and powerfully. Combined with my endless passion for painting outdoors, en plein air, I strive to capture ‘that impression’ of the beautiful colors and forms in nature. I work at making my technique, colors and design seem simple. I look to achieve order through arrangement of line, pattern, color, light and shadow, to make paintings that have the qualities of good design.
