Marie Massey is an award-winning artist who has been drawing and painting since she could hold a pencil. Marie has studied art at the California College of Arts and Crafts, University of California - Santa Barbara, and the Loveland Academy of Art. She has also studied with many well-known professional artists. She is a member of the Estes Park Plein Air Painters, the Northern Colorado Artist Association, The Greeley Art Association, Oil Painters of America, and the Thompson Valley Art League. Marie is an avid plein aire painter, setting up her easle in beautiful places around the world including California, Colorado, New Mexico, Europe, and South and Central America. Favorite subjects include landscape, wildlife, portraiture, still life, and fantasy.
Many of Marie's fantasy pieces are inspired by the architecture, landscapes, and exotic wildlife she encounters on her travels.
Marie's artwork has been juried into such national and prestigious shows as the Red River Valley National Juried Art Exhibition, the Plano National Juried Exhibition, the Richard Schmidt Fine Art Auction, the National Greeley Art Exhibition in Greeley, Colorado, National Northern Colorado Art Association Show, and the National Lines into Shapes Show in Estes Park, Colorado.
Recently Marie was honored to receive the BEST of SHOW award for her painting, Renaissance, at the 2006 Greeley National Show. Marie's work has sold well and hangs in private collections throughout the country.
